When Jeep first came out with the Grand Cherokee SRT-8 it was a big deal to the automotive enthusiast world. An All-Wheel-Drive, SUV with a powerful 6.1 Liter Hemi V8 proved to be an amazing combination and Jeep sold as many of them as they could make!
Over the years the lineup of Hemi-powered Mopar vehicles have all received significant improvements. The biggest of which has certainly been the supercharged Hellcats and limited-edition Dodge Demon vehicles. The Hellcat’s Supercharged, 6.2L V8 makes anywhere from 707 to 797 horsepower depending on the configuration. It was only a matter of time before these motors were put into the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee platform and when the Trackhawk was introduced with it’s 707 horsepower configuration it too was extraordinarily well-received and insanely fast! With the large number of “regular” Jeep SRT-8’s on the road, it left those owners longing for the additional power a supercharger would add. The Trackhawk’s high MSRP in the near $100,000.00 range was a bit much for some people to take, so it was only natural that a cost-effective solution was sought.
Enter RIPP Superchargers (www.rippmods.com) and their Vortech-based Supercharger systems for the entire lineup of 5.7L, 6.1L and 6.4L Hemi V8 engines, not to mention the nearly entire board of Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep V6 engines as well. With hundreds of thousands of test miles on their own vehicles, they developed systems that utilize Vortech’s superchargers with their own custom hardware and software.
Velocity Factor is proud to be a RIPP Supercharger Authorized Dealer, Installer, and Tuner to compliment our already being the same regarding the Vortech product line. One of our customers came to us with his extremely nice, low-mileage, 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 that had some minor exhaust modifications and sought the additional power and enhanced sound with performance numbers that would nearly rival a Trackhawk with everyday reliability and dependability. RIPP Superchargers knows that the “standard” 6.4L SRT-8 motors only have so much room to take on additional horsepower with the stock internals so they developed a complete supercharger solution kit that runs approximately 5psi of boost to deliver huge horsepower and torque gains, while being capable of running even more boost on a fully-built motor.
This customer wanted to keep his internals stock and was happy to pick up nearly 175 extra horsepower in the process for a fraction of the cost vs. selling his vehicle and purchasing a Trackhawk. With the precise skill of our highly trained technicians coupled with the incredible engineering of the RIPP Supercharger system and our custom, in-house fabrication in modifying the exhaust to give it more “bark” without any drone, the package was designed and installed. Have a look at the post-installation pictures to see for yourself just how nicely this kit looks, which is akin to that of a factory setup.
While the car was here, and as Velocity Factor does with every car, we went through the vehicle to make sure all fluids were in good order along with checking the suspension, brakes, and more. We discovered the front brakes were well used and requiring replacement. A new set of OEM Brembo front Brake Rotors, Brembo brake pads, and full brake fluid flush with Motul RBF fluid was performed to ensure this powerful Jeep had the proper stopping power to match it’s newfound horsepower and torque gains.
