Flex Fuel, Custom Tuning, and you Subaru STI

It’s no secret that the Subaru STi’s EJ25 motor have their limitations in stock form. However, there are significant improvements to be had in reducing those limitations which also allow for a well equipped, custom-tuned vehicle to make considerable power. We’re talking well in excess of 350 Horsepower at the wheels and nearly 400 Ft./Lbs. of torque with stock internals and a stock turbocharger.

Here at Velocity Factor, we have certainly built, tuned, and modified hundreds upon hundreds of Subaru vehicles over the years. As one of the top COBB Tuning dealers in the U.S. (along with many other popular performance brands) there is no marque we’ve worked on more which is due to their immense popularity and our expertise.

It would be difficult to stop by our shop and not see a number of these vehicles here getting worked on at any given time. To say we know these cars inside and out would be a severe understatement. With that, let’s get to the real point here; how to make big power numbers reliably and consistently with the utmost in safety!

With full bolt-ons including a turbo-back exhaust, intake, full fuel upgrade kit with rails, injectors, lines, fuel pressure regulator, along with a proper flex fuel kit, compatible fuel pump and a COBB Accessport for tuning, it’s pretty much all that’s needed to obtain maximum horsepower and torque numbers of over 350whp and nearly 400 Ft./Lbs. of wheel torque on E85 fuel. For those who only know what E85 is by name, simply put it’s an alternative fuel produced by blending 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. It’s clean burning, with reduced tailpipe emissions, produced domestically from a variety of organic materials (in the U.S. it’s primarily corn), is the equivalent of 105 octane gasoline and runs much cooler than regular gasoline which is an essential component to making higher and safer power. E85 has a lower energy density than pure pump gas which contains approximately 125,000 BTUs per gallon, while E85 contains only 84,000 BTUs. This means that a greater volume of E85 must be utilized to realize the same energy content. While your fuel consumption will increase, the costs are significantly less than pump gas. E85 burns much cooler than standard pump gas which allows for cooler intake temperatures and because it does this with a much higher octane rating a properly tuned car can run more aggressively in terms of boost, timing, and more without nearly the same risks in terms of knock/detonation as pump fuel does. It’s a win-win scenario for everyone!

At Velocity Factor, our custom tunes are designed to make maximum power with complete reliability and safety. We’ve mastered the art of tuning on E85 and flex-fuel along with pump gas setups in order to get you the most performance out of your car in the safest manner possible. It’s absolutely incredible what differences a car like the Subaru STi can see with a flex-fuel kit and a custom Pro-Tune. The numbers and performance gains speak for themselves and we have countless customers driving their STi vehicles on our tunes.
